Welcome to Standard & Works

America is undergoing a once-in-a-generation industrial shift to build out domestic AI infrastructure, manufacturing, and supply chains driven by the rise of artificial intelligence, reshoring and the race to build faster, stronger and closer to home.

States and regions across the country are competing for the billions of dollars in private capital being poured into data centers, advanced manufacturing, and power infrastructure.

And yet? The legacy trade media covering economic development is still publishing print magazines, falling behind on covering a fast-changing industry and what it means for the future of the country.

Standard & Works was created to change that.

Every week we’ll cover the latest news and deliver actionable insights and competitive intelligence that helps CapEx decision makers get stuff done.

You’ll see and hear from us three ways:

  1. A  weekly newsletter stacked with strategic insights, original reporting and data.

  1. A LinkedIn show where we’ll talk directly with key stakeholders. Our first interview out today: Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.

  1. Briefings that deliver actionable intelligence to U.S. CapEx decisionmakers. Briefings are interactive, off-the-record sessions that translate our reporting into expertise.

  • We’ve held more than a dozen virtual and in-person briefings this summer with corporate real estate leaders, site selectors, and EDOs diving into Pennsylvania’s $92 Billion AI Playbook and how the state is landing mega deals. Email us if you want to meet about it.

So who’s behind Standard & Works?

I’m Zach Silber, founder and Editor-in-Chief of Standard & Works.

  • I cut my teeth in the early days of digital political media, then spent more than a decade working in strategic communications and political strategy, advising companies across the entire CapEx lifecycle – from site selection through ribbon cutting.

The name Standard & Works is intentional.

  • Standard is a nod to Standard Oil and Rockefeller — my wife is from Cleveland and it’s a city I love.

  • Works pays homage to Carnegie Works and Pittsburgh, where my own family settled a century ago.

  • We’re a national publication, but this region’s industrial legacy, grit, and future embodies what drives us.

And like any good entrepreneur, this journey is as much about nerding out as it is helping CapEx decision makers get things done.
