The name Standard & Works gives a nod to Rockefeller’s Standard Oil and Carnegie Works — titans of the last industrial era — and, though we’re a national publication, pays homage to the regions where my family was forged: Pittsburgh, where my ancestors settled a century ago, and Cleveland, my wife’s hometown and a city I love.
